Had a crack on the beta last night, gotta say on balance I'm feeling happy. Yes there are numerous issues, most of much you will have heard about (grenade arc, crosshair dot, tap to talk, camera angle, "guns hot", god damn scope zoom etc), but the game itself runs smooth. By the time we get to grips with the maps and modes I think we could be back in our element!

I couldn't help but compare this to S2, and thats probably why many of the irritations above became apparent (except for the camera, which would have been a problem regardless). I'm confident however many of these problems will be either ironed out or tweaked early on, leaving us with a great mp game.

Bring on guidance, fox hunt and mixer!!!

Hitman, GTi_Jay & Philslip have all signed up to PS+ so it would be interesting if you all could get together with yourself & Gunnell and find out how the 'community' stuff works, stuff like friends list support, invite system et al...

Well I signed up for PS+ for the 90 day period for a £10 and started the download. Whilst waiting I made sure that I took advantage of all the free to PS+ users dynamic themes and avatars. Probably got about £10 worth of stuff, so happy already!

1.5GB game install which takes about an hour but no issues with that really, as it's a beta.

Agree with Tak and Gunnells comments concerning some minor tweaks but have been overall impressed with the game so far. Yes, the camera is little close but it's been highlighted by everyone. The press to talk thing needs improvement, no sound indicator to acknowledge that comms are open and it gives you 10 seconds talk time, but again this has been raised on the forums.
Cover system works really well and so does the overall gameplay. The game me and Gunnell got together on earlier appeared to be easy to join and lag free, thank god!
Maps are expansive with much more detail than confrontation with many more pinch points and areas that can be utilised by teams!
Enjoying it lots so far! Don't even compare this game to confrontation, its in a different league!

FYI - It does appears that if friends share accounts etc, they can play the game. I logged on with Mash's account and the game fired up and logged in, so we'll report back later to see if the sharing of beta downlaod has worked.

Surely they will make the needed adjustments for classic mode, they would win so many people back.

Well, they promise they are listening to the good, bad and the angry so hopefully they can make those tweaks.

I cant find the link but there is footage of S4 utilising the grenade arc.

If it was there before it can't be that difficult to put it back to put it back in!

Played my second game last night, it gets more appealing each time I play!

The only irritation that I feel cant be simply fixed is the abuse of the cover system. Now this may go away as we get to know the maps and ways to take out these scrubs, but it currently is my major bug bear.

It does however make it real easy to capture points, as the enemy is way back inside their half of the map campin hard - fags!

Really struggling with this game now.........which keeps me going back for more! The beta seems to have a serious amount of camping fags and run 'n' gunners, which is pissing me off!
Its proving very difficult to play with randoms and the teams with 3 or 4 clan members are dominating quite comprehensively, which will hopefully include CDR in 20+ days time.

The game was offline for quite a few hours on Friday night which resulted in some changes to gameplay, much of which involved 'comms issues'.

p.s. Pikey will be extremely happy by the return of certain type of proximity mine

Well, well, well what an absolute pleasure to see SOCOM back. I know that some of us having been playing it for nearly a week already but last night 4 of us finally utilised the Clan Challenge function. WOW!

Get everyone together, ready up and either wait for an invite of challenge from another clan or send an invitiation directly to a list of clans who are also ready for battle.

Proper players who are using tactics and comms. No running and gunning, proper games of SOCOM. Espicially being the first one out and having to do the 5 minute wait watching someone else playing....grrrrrrr! We all agreed that this mode had improved our experience of the game so far. GTI Jay has even gone as far to quote (via sms) 'SOCOM showed signs of brilliance last night, the weekend it comes out is a bank holiday, sweeeeet'!
Pre-order it now if haven't already! NOW god damn it!

Does the clan invite screen list some sort of clan ranking? I.e - will we be able to play against some other clan who's equally as shit as CDR?

yes mick it has a clan ranking. your clan starts with a rating of 1500 and this changes, if u win the rating goes up and if u lose it goes down. This is shown when you search for other clans to battle with.

For me it was the best night for me on the game so far it felt more like a socom game, was really good fun even thou i could not hit a barn door from a foot away, looking forward to the release day!

Don't know what all the fuss is about. I'll take improved comms but everything else seems to work bloody brilliantly. That last game I played last night was pure Socom. Have placed my pre-order this morning.

If you look in your online stats on the beta - you can see there are 10 maps to come - with one of them being the S1/S2 map Abandoned. Hopefully it'll be the daylight version of S1 and not the night version of S2!
