I really want them to address the camera and crosshairs, they are most disorientating to me!

Tak - don't take soooo long joining us next time. The boyz got impatient and we started without you!

Anyhow, here's some incoming fixes which will come as hopefully a day-one patch when the game ships:

First Patch – SOCOM 4 Retail Version 1.XX
Estimated Release: April 2011


  • Multiplayer camera pulled further behind character (cuts off at around the mid-to-upper thigh)
  • Multiplayer camera field of view has been widened by roughly 20%
  • Firing
    accuracy has been improved for all weapons and aim modes; first few
    shots are substantially more accurate (with less accuracy the longer
    full-auto is employed)

  • Considerably increased horizontal and vertical recoil to all weapons in ACOG and Red Dot views
  • Decreased effective range of all SMGs
  • Reduced throw distance for all grenades
  • Made
    improvements to the HUD to make teammate names display above their head
    if they are onscreen; removed allied names (leaving only icons) when
    spotting friendlies at a distance;

  • Made adjustments to XP system so that it takes longer to gain character and weapon mod levels
  • More to come, stay tuned...
Good news about the camera, but in all honesty it wasn't as bad as some trolls on the S4 made out - but I do concede that when your in a tight space your characters head can get in the way. Not sure about increasing the accuracy, there already seems to be a lot of head shots. As for recoil, does anyone ever use the FPS view (except for sniping)?? Grenades gimping isn't really addressing the issue - we need that arc back! As for the players names, I would have gone the other way and had the players names (of team mates) displayed all the time as it's handy to see where your team mate died as the name faded. Any XP reduction should be frowned on. We're CDR and we're shite so therefor we need as much XP as possible!

Nice to see the CDR v CDR, 4v4 matches work last night. We need to keep Hitman & myself as hosts in the future! Also, after each game, dump the room and create a new one as it saves a lot of hassle. Also, I must add - I took a sniper rifle out for a couple of rounds last night and only fired one shot and got a long range head-shot. Therefore, I am now a complete all-rounder and a sniping God! Sorry! Was having a bad reaction to "infinity chilli" sauce I ingested earlier in the day.

Nice to see they are being proactive. I would like it even more if they fixed all the main points that everyone has pointed out to them endless times already, rather than pissing around with the XP. Seriously, what a waste of time!

I still have high hopes for the full release. Very Happy

You didn't miss much. The clan lobbies weren't working for the first hour and when they did decide to work we only managed one game before PSN crashed until 23:30!

On Thursday, we'll go straight for a CDR vs game again, even if there are no lobbies showing and we'll organise the teams better via the text chat...

Party system confirmed!

Will be available as part of a patch shortly after release. That should make life easier if the clan system is borked!

Reminder to everyone else: Socom 4 beta on the store today. So get it downloaded in readiness for tomorrow nights clan night!

Also, the game is released on the 22nd of this month - which happens to be Good Friday so there won't be any postal deliveries. So if you order from the likes of play.com you might not get yours to the Saturday, or the following Tuesday. Shopto.net usually delivers a day before the release so get it from there for ÂŁ36.85 and we could be having our first clan night on the 21st - 2 weeks from tomorrow! cheers

A couple more tweaks added:


  • Updated "Vote Kick" UI so that it no longer eats real estate on your screen like Galactus at the Milkway Buffet

  • Made various PlayStation Move adjustments including a latency reduction, less sensitive recoil countering, the added ability to pitch up while firing, tuning to the turn and pitch areas, fixes for Sharp Shooter hiccups, and more

SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Beta v1.02
TPPS: 37 MBs, DLS: 21 MBs

Gameplay

Increased XP requirements to gain “Rank” levels
Lowered XP bonuses for “Classic” mode “Wins”
Decreased Weapon XP bonuses earned for “Kills, Assists,” and “Headshots”
Adjusted “Classic” mode merit bonuses so that “Kills, Assists, Team Kills, Bomb Techs Killed, “ and “Data Carriers Killed” are the only bonuses that are increased by “Classic” status



Weapons and Gear

Increased firing accuracy for all weapons and aim modes so that the first few shots are substantially more accurate (with variations by weapon)
Increased horizontal and vertical recoil while in Reflex, ACOG and Low Variable Scope modes
All long-range sub-machine gun damage has been lowered and maximum range has been decreased
Decreased maximum throwing power and lowered throwing angle for all grenade types
Fixed the display stats for the FDO-11 and IW80-A2 assault rifles to their appropriate values



Audio/Visual

Camera position has been moved back to show more of the player-character
Camera field of view has been widened by roughly 20%
Smoothed camera movements when changing locations in tight spaces
Updated “Vote Kick” user-interface so that it takes up less of the screen



Technical

Fixed issue that prevented Clan Challenge queue from properly working



Miscellaneous

Made various PlayStation Move adjustments including latency reduction, less sensitive recoil countering, the added ability to pitch up while firing, tuning to the turn and pitch areas, etc
Renamed PlayStation Move control schemes to “Standard Aim” and “Standard Arcade”


Glad to see the Clan Challenge fix is in there - the the biggy of the camera too!

Patch is now available - I downloaded it at lunchtime.

It's a 38mb patch, followed by a 21mb game data patch. Couldn't test it as no sooner I downloaded the patch the servers went down for maintenance.

I'm getting mine from Shopto.net for ÂŁ36.85 which will probably be delivered on the Wednesday. The DLC will be on the store for 3-4 quid so it's swings and roundabouts really. Who knows, the DLC might be free to PS+ users like the KZ 3 DLC was!
