See you in the field Sir.

One thing I do hope is that the movement isn't quite as heavy as part 2, don't get me wrong I preferred it to CoDs 'walking on air' feel, but could do with just a touch less 'heft' if that makes sense.

By all accounts they've made it slightly less weighty as it was a prominent gripe. Looking forward to trying the story mode co-op as those a.i morons in KZ2 were bleeding useless!

Damn it! Co-op is offline split screen only and not online. Bugger.

Multiplayer beta (more like a server stress test) is coming to the EU on the 4th of February, followed by a single player demo on the 15th of February. So plenty of opportunity to try before you buy.

Multiplayer demo should be on the store today in readiness for the start of the beta tomorrow. It's free so get on the case. That's an order!

Demo is up. 802mb. Online servers for MP are not quite up yet, but you can play against bots offline to get some practice in.

Plays much better than KZ2. Controls are tighter & faster and the aiming is miles better. Game play is the same as the last (not like Socom 2 Very Happy ) - so if you wasn't a KZ2 fan then I suspect this won't win you over.

What Mick said.

Top drawer.

I've also noticed that game will be punting a pack with the special edition of the game and a 'jungle green two tone dualshock controller' for around £60.

Thats if you can find it in amongst the sea of pre-owned titles of course.

Killzone 3.... Empty Pre-ordered based on the demo

Post  PitoPuccho Fri Feb 04, 2011 1:09 am

Played the online for about 1 hour last night. Only one level to play: "Frozen Dam" and really enjoyed it.
As Mick stated, controls are alot tighter and the whole feel of the game is alot smoother/faster. You do still get a sense of weight though like KZ2.

Game mode "operations" was good fun, was like Battlefields Rush, where you had to defend certain points, if defeated, the enemy would push you back. All around. Brilliant.

Not to mention the sound and look of the game is spot on.

Be interesting to see how you got on with the Move controls Mick?

Tip for the online: Pressing the start button on the online front page to get into the options will let you re-select your region, so you can choose where you play. I got stuck on US servers and had a miserable time with lag. Once selecting EU it was generally silky smooth.

As for the Move controller, I don't dare going online with it as I would appear as one of those noobs who can't control their camera with their right stick. So I stuck to Botzone and stuck with the Move for an hour to see how I got on...

Firstly, calibration is a piece of piss. Even easier when you actually plug the camera in (D'oh!). As for the control method whilst playing - I can sum it up in one word: HARD. Or more accurately: DIFFERENT. 15 years of using DS controllers have left me institutionalised! I spent most of the game altering the sensitivity, dead zones, and cursor speeds - but once I got to a setting I was happy with - it was very manageable. It really shows it's stuff though when you're using the L1 (or L2 on the Move controller) and zooming in. Picking-off far off targets through the scope is very controllerable and very, very satisfying.

I think my problem with the Move at the moment is speed. I'm just faster on the DS and I'm not sure if KZ3 with it's new found touch of speed is a good match. That said, if you're a camping, snipering bumbag who likes to find a spot and scope the battlefield, then it's FUCKING awesome. Maybe it's time I changed my approach. I'm getting too slow for running around like a headless chicken anyway.

I will persevere some more offline with the Move and see if I can get quicker with it.

I'm not sure Dave. Even though I've given Move a fair go, I still find myself going back to a controller and back to my comfort zone.

Killzone update on the server issue:

Hi everyone,

So it looks like that last patch may have caused some issues, sorry about that. For those experiencing connection difficulties and network errors, we are aware of the problems, and are actively working to resolve them. Sadly I can’t give an exact ETA for a fix right now but we will update you as soon as we have more detailed information.

In the meantime botzone should give you plenty of practice for when everything is back online.

Thanks again for your continued support and patience.

Still no update on the beta - so it's still down at the moment.

Anyway, Game have the collectors edition going for £44.99 which seems a reasonable deal for the extras you get. Have pre-ordered it.

And 3rd time lucky we were! Invite & squad system worked OK - just needs a squad channel for the comms as muting Johnny Foreigner was tedious. Game play was lag free and fast and furious - just a shame that once again it's another FPS which rewards people who can play 24/7 and unlock all the better weapons and perks.

Beta has now ended - but a single player demo will be on the store later today. I'll be giving that a miss as I'd rather wait for next weeks release.

Have pre-ordered the CE edition as I had a fiver in my Game rewards account and got it for £39.99. Looking forward to it. For those not getting it - enjoy your wait for Socom 4! Twisted Evil

The chances are it won't scratch your tactical itch - BUT - if we don't all stick together with something, the clan will end and we won't be together for Socom when it's released! Just think of this as the last FPS you'll have to play before Socom 4. And in return, I will stick with Socom 4 (warts and all) just to keep the clan together.

Looks like the last beta gained some great feed-back and to top it off the developer listened and most of the requests will be implemented on release, or shortly after. This is all we ask as customers. Take note CoD. 7 patches in and I'm hearing your game is still a pile of shite. (And yes, I will keep on banging this drum)

1ST PARTY GAMES ROCK!!! 3RD PARTY GAMES SUCK!!!

Here's what's coming:

Dear Killzone 3 Beta Testers,

First of all, we'd like to thank you for taking the time out to test Killzone 3's multiplayer component. Through your testing, feedback and comments, Killzone 3 is shaping up to be a fantastic multiplayer experience and we have you all to thank. We've already managed to address several key issues, such as server stability, network errors, etc.

What we'd like to do is give you guys some idea of how your hard work has paid off on parts of the game you've commented on, but haven't seen a patch for in the open beta. We've received a tremendous amount feedback from all of you, some of it obviously in favor of specific changes, while some other feedback was split down the middle. To compensate for the split feedback, we've looked at information and statistics we've been collecting while you've been playing on the server. Below you'll find a list of some of the most talked about points during beta, and what we plan to do to address these specific issues.

* A fix to the "Your Faction Has Won/Lost" issue, along with all oddities that resulted from this occurring
* An issue that allowed more than two clans to join a clan match will be fixed
* Increased Accuracy, Bullet Damage and Faster Reload Ribbons will update correctly on personal statistics screens
* We've simplified the process to invite players into your game (just one button press)
* The radius of the Marksman's Scramble++ has been lowered
* Medic's Revive distance increased and cooldown to re-use is decreased
* No collision on mortally wounded player bodies
* Increased player stamina
* An icon will be shown in the menu when you have a Killzone 3 message in your inbox

Shortly after the game's release, you'll also see these changes patched in:

* Support for color-blind players
* Implement unranked custom games for players to create private or clan matches
* Enhanced custom games functionality that will allow players to:
o Control over games modes and settings
o Secure games, allowing you to invite the players you want to play with
o The ability to prevent abilities and weapons from being used
o Toggling on and off functionality, such as ribbons, skills, explosives, etc.
o Selecting which careers you want available to players
o Allow friendly fire to be turned on or off
o Faction switching enabled or disabled
* The Clan Officer role will be added to clans
* Separate turn speeds for hip-fire and ADS
* Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down
* Increased the amount of kills required to win a Guerrilla Warfare match
* Increased Accuracy ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered
* Likewise, the Bullet Damage ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered as well
* Matches will end if the other team forfeits (i.e. too few, or no players on the enemy team)
* Matchmaking enhancements that will close and merge games based on player count, which will keep games more full
* Balance factions out by moving players to the other team at the end of the match if one team is lopsided
* The ability to turn off HUD markers for point pop-ups and objectives
* A menu option to allow squad-only chat
* The addition of a Mute All button
* Scoreboard flickering will be fixed
* Clans will no longer get matched against other clans that have many more players than they do (i.e. 4 vs. 7, 5 vs. Cool

And that list is just the beginning. As we release our patches you'll get a full list of everything we've updated in a patch list, which is much more than what we've listed above.

We'd like to thank all of you for taking such an active part in the Killzone community and we sincerely appreciate all of the time you've put into the open beta test. We simply can't thank you enough!
